Graffiti is something students can count on seeing at Pebblebrook. It is apparent that many students have no consideration for their school as well as their peers.

Graffiti is everywhere and hard to overlook. Graffiti can be found in bathrooms, walls in the hallways, as well as outside of the school.

It’s never really clear who does most of the damage at Pebblebrook, but one thing’s for certain, there are plenty of students that are contributing to the problem.

“I am so tired of kids being so immature. They obviously want attention that they are not getting a home, said senior Brooke Everette.

Many think that lack of attention at home affects the way a student acts at school. It may also be interpreted as a cry for help.

“Some people don’t know how to express themselves and the only way they can, is to let the world know! said junior Scott Davis

Other students believe there are deeper problems behind the vandalism.

“I don’t understand why they don’t get counseling. People who write graffiti on other people’s property obviously need help, said freshman Keisha Burks.

Counseling may or may not help someone that has a lot of bottled up problems, but everyone seems to agree that the problem is proof that many teenagers need someone to talk to and more outlets to express themselves.

Graffiti artists are often talented, but need to find ways to express themselves appropriately.

“I think that [students who draw graffiti] are bored, and they aren’t able to express their creativity freely, said junior Christopher Jenkins.

As you walk the halls, you see the filth, but wait. Have you ever stopped and thought about how it all gets cleaned from day to day?

Every one does it. You’re walking along and you finish your soda; there’s no trash can around and you don’t want to carry it around with you. What do you do with it; you simply toss it on the ground without thinking twice.

Everyday the halls and lunchrooms are demolished by the student body and the mess is left for the custodians to clean up. Many students and staff agree that the custodial staff has been abused.

“They’re custodians, not slaves, said French teacher Mary Shell.

Without the custodians, this school would be in complete shambles. They are a huge part of the glue that holds this school together. Head Custodian One, Byron Relford has been at Pebblebrook for 11 years, and he said that cleanliness has always been an issue for this school.

“Mrs. Montgomery put new trash cans all over the campus, so there is no excuse why kids can’t just put their trash in a can, said Relford

“It’s a travesty, what bothers me the most is when kids can’t even walk to the trash can and throw away their trash from lunch, said Physics teacher Chuck Ellwood

Relford would like for things to change as far as the cleanliness of Pebblebrook High School, because he thinks that if the school is clean it will improve all aspects.

“If everyone would come together about keeping the school clean then it would be easier and a more productive environment, said Relford.

Relford concluded how it makes him feel to see his hard work ruined by the students in moments with just one word. All he could say was, “Disheartened.

Pebblebrook students have grown more and more accustomed to practice of getting tattoos and being pierced.

It is common now to see musical artists, actors and models with a variety of tattoos and piercings, which leads many students to attempt to duplicate their style. It seems like everyone, from rappers to “wannabes, has at least one tattoo. Tattoos help students express their creative sides.

Junior Jasmine Harvard chose to get her tattoo because of her friends. She got the word “Jazzy with music notes around it.

“It’s my name, and I love music. Harvard admits that she did not tell her mom she was getting the tattoo.

Not all parents are against their children getting tattoos; in fact some encourage their children to get “inked.

Junior Shamar Blackshear was inspired by his mother to get his first tattoo.

“My tattoo [which says] ‘God’s Soldier’ symbolizes strength to me! said Blackshear.

Students are getting bolder and bolder when it comes to getting tattoos. They can be seen from the head to the toes of countless Pebblebrook students.

Other students prefer expressing themselves with a body piercing. It is no longer uncommon to see females with piercings such as belly rings that would have been deemed unorthodox just a few decades ago.

Junior Ashley Hill admits she got her belly pierced in order to make a fashion statement.

“I got my parents’ permission to get my piercing; it wasn’t painful, said Hill.

There is no reason to believe that tattoos and piercings are fads that will eventually fade away. On the contrary, more and more students seem to want them.

Hill says that she doesn’t have a tattoo yet, but she plans on getting one soon.

Everywhere in the school it’s there; there’s no avoiding it. Bad language—it gets you every time.

Some people see cursing as a sign of ignorance, but others believe their is a reason why people talk like they do.

“I grew up with it so it’s not a big deal to me, said sophomore Rachel Bryant.

Some people do grow up with cursing. Without realizing, it becomes second nature.

Teachers react differently to students swearing. Some choose to ignore it, while others are offended and will punish the guilty party.

“Any swear word that’s used as a verb, yeah, I jump on the student for it, said physics teacher Chuck Ellwood.

Some students believe there are times when cursing is acceptable.

“It’s OK in certain environments, said junior Rachel Bradley.

Teens who curse often alter their speech in these environments.

“You shouldn’t use it everywhere; at school, sure it’s fine, but at church, no way, said junior E.J. Laird.

Students learn quickly which teachers are sensitive to every inappropriate word, but they also figure out which ones don’t pay much attention to bad language.

“If a student says ‘damn’ or ‘hell,’ then I don’t get bent out of shape, but if they drop the ‘S bomb’ or ‘F bomb’ then, yeah, I get bent out of shape about that.

Cursing is ultimately a choice, and students who choose to curse learn when they can get away with it and when to turn it off.

Students who choose to curse do run the risk of being judged by fellow students and their teachers.

“I prefer kids to not use bad language; I think it shows a lack of intelligence, said English teacher Tara Cooney.

Johnny Depp has become a preeminent actor of this generation of young men and women by starring in such roles as Cry Baby Walker, Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, etc. He is a heartthrob to women all over the world.

“He’s very versatile in his acting and all of his movies are different, and he’s just able to portray anything he wants, said senior, Hilary Hobbs, “and also he’s very good looking.

But what makes Johnny Depp such an interesting person? It seems he’s sparked such an interest in many young women that they go about collecting his memorabilia.

“I have about eight movie posters in my room. I have a signed photograph, a calendar; I have two of my closet doors completely covered with pictures taken out of magazines, and I have 32 of his 40 movies, said Hobbs.

Hobbs is not alone in her obsession. Junior Tamara Gipson claims to have, “20 posters, 25 of his movies, many notebooks, my entire computer and screen covered with him, Johnny Depp action figures, and walls and mirrors coated in his photographs and magazine clippings.

Although he may be a piece of eye candy to most, many take his views on life and acting abilities and apply them to their own life.

“Watching his work makes me realize that one person can be lots of different things if they just work at it. And he’s very dedicated said Hobbs.

With such a fascination for an actor of Johnny Depp’s status, you would believe that a romantic relationship could not be maintained. But sophomore Nick Druzbanski, who is Hobbs’ boyfriend, said, “No, I don’t mind that she has the obsession. It’s not affecting me negatively. If I could choose to make it, not as obsessive, I would. She won’t even let me go see the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie with her because that’s how obsessed she is. So if I could tone it down a little bit I would.

Even if it does bother him a little, Druzbanski said he would never ask his girlfriend to drop her obsession.

“Hilary’s obsession with Johnny Depp makes her interesting, and that’s what I like about her.

Whether it is his good looks, his views on life, or his marvelous acting skills, Johnny Depp has worked his way into the hearts of many young fans, some deeper than others.

It is no secret that numerous Pebblebrook students are underage smokers. There are also students at Pebblebrook who have turned 18 and can light up legally despite the health risks involved.

Many teenagers who are not of legal age to smoke; end up smoking anyway due to a variety of reasons. Some start smoking out of curiosity.

“When I started smoking I did it because I was curious, I just wanted to know what it felt like, said junior Javier Hernandez.

Other teen smokers say personal problems led to their habit.

“I started smoking because I was curious and depressed, said sophomore Maria Negreros.

Teenagers are just as susceptible to the addictions of smoking and are unable to quit. Some students develop strong addictions at a very young age.

“I used to sit and go through five or six cigarettes in one sitting—one after another, said senior Lakiesha Pitts.

However, there are still many teens that seem to realize the dangers of smoking and have never smoked in their life and would never try to smoke.

“[Smoking] is very unhealthy and nasty; it also makes people smell, and also it’s a big turn off, said sophomore Andrea Martinez.

Others teens are forced to be around secondhand smoke even if they don’t want to be. The problem of second-hand smoke has led Georgia and other states to ban smoking in public places, but that does not help the teens that are subjected to second-hand smoke in their homes.

“It hurts people’s health and I think that [non-smokers] shouldn’t be forced in to that certain situation, said Martinez.

“Smoking and even secondhand smoke can cause diseases like different types of cancer, said sophomore Harjit Kaur.

Even though there are many people who smoke, it doesn’t mean they are not trying to quit.

“I was thirteen when I started smoking, and now I am seventeen. Between those times I had gotten addicted to the cigarettes. I am still trying really hard to quit, but its hard, especially when I get more stressed out. Then there is when you are around people you love—when you smoke, all of a sudden it hits you that you are actually harming them. That is why I am trying my best to quit, said Pitts.

“I was smoking for three years and then I figured that I should quit because it is not cool, and it doesn’t make you look good. You just look stupid.

So, you have seen them on the streets, in the hallways, and pretty much everywhere else. They fix computers, and write programs. Nerds rule the technological world and are always fun at parties!

That’s not all though, they change our lives and move us further... Nerds are great beings; so let’s get to know them better.

The average life of a nerd is a lot like our own; they wake up, work, eat, and sometimes sleep. The only thing is that is different is that they are highly intelligent beings and study the works of their most favorite mentors such as Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Albert Einstein.

Most self-professed “nerds seem to have some things in common. They usually have somewhat “awkward hours of sleep. (Student Brian Harris gets five hours of sleep on an average night.)

Hours spent at home usually consist of them doing homework. (Just like the rest of us, but if you don’t, then good luck!) They also participate in activities that most people do such as watching TV, doing work around the house, etc.

So you are probably wondering, “Well, what makes them nerds? They are not that much different than you.

Well, the one’s that I have got my mind on are very intelligent, can be relied on, and have their special little niches. Student Brian Harris is an “internet guy, student Omar Cerda is sort of the computer nerd, is very intelligent, is usually an “A student and is an avid soccer player.

These nerds classify themselves as different then last year’s nerds.

“I’m not the average guy, I’m a new breed, I go outside and do exercise, said sophomore Omar Cerda.

That’s saying that some nerds are active and always moving. One thing that has always been associated with nerds though, is the relationship with bullies. Both Cerda and Harris said they deal with these “circumstances, and surprisingly, they take it really well.

“People don’t pick on me because, I pick [on them] back. said Brian Harris.

But that’s not always going to be the case; some nerds can’t escape the wedgies, or being picked on, but hopefully this article can shed some light on those that work smarter, not harder, and who spend their days working on something new that may one day change the world.

Apple has been cranking out some good products for a few years, but one that really draws attention is the iPod. Nowadays, its not to so surprising to find these MP3 players in the hands of people all around the world.

In fact, you could say that these are almost as successful as cell phones, which also (in some models) are able to play MP3s. There is a reason why I mentioned cell phones, and you can probably guess why.

In January, Apple unveiled something that might win over the cell phone market by a long shot, and that is the iPhone. Sure, you have heard of the RAZR, which is the most successful cell phone on the market, but it might be blown away very soon.

The new Apple iPhone sports the ability to act like an iPod, surf the net with Apple’s web browser Safari, keep an address book, send e-mail, run little mini-programs called Widgets which are found in Mac OS X, and numerous other cool things.

I’ll briefly explain the features. When I said that it could act like an iPod I wasn’t kidding. The iPhone has a four or eight-gigabyte hard drive and can also play movies and music with the ability to sync with iTunes.

The iPhone can surf the web using Wi-Fi and it uses a full service web browser that renders pages just like a normal computer. It can keep an address book of your contacts, and can even keep photos of them to help you remember their faces in case you forget (which is shameful in my opinion). Users can check e-mail from Gmail, or another email service that is compatible with POP3 or IMAP clients. It has the Widgets as I mentioned before that are found in Mac OS X. Widgets are basically little applications that can give you weather reports, stock information, sports scores and much more.

Apple has given a release date for the iPhone, which will be sometime in June this year, and it will cost approximately $500.

        Ghost Rider (PG-13) Feb. 16
(Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Wes Bentley, Peter Fonda)
In order to save his dying father, young stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze sells his soul to Mephistopheles and sadly parts from the pure-hearted Roxanne Simpson, the love of his life. Years later, Johnny’s path crosses again with Roxanne, now a go-getting reporter, and also with Mephistopheles, who offers to release Johnny’s soul if Johnny becomes the fabled, fiery Ghost Rider, a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice. Mephistopheles charges Johnny with defeating the despicable Blackheart, Mephistopheles’s nemesis and son, who plans to displace his father and create a new hell even more terrible than the old one.
Dina: I cannot wait to see this one!!!
Paul: I think that this movie is going to be great because they are taking a classic comic book that our parents are familiar with and turning into a kick a** epic action.
Dina: Eva Mendez might be the only draw back of the movie. She’s great at dancing around and looking pretty, but acting? Not so much...
Paul: I think that her beauty is uncanny and that she will only bring substance to the movie!

The Number 23 (R)
(Jim Carrey, Virginia Madsen, Danny Huston, Mark Pellegrino)
The psychological thriller ‘The Number 23’ stars Jim Carrey as a man whose life unravels after he comes into contact with an obscure book titled The Number 23. As he reads the book, he becomes increasingly convinced that it is based on his own life. His obsession with the number 23 starts to consume him, and he begins to realize the book forecasts far graver consequences for his life than he could have ever imagined.
Paul: I think that this guy needs to get over himself. Who made him so important that a book would narrate his life? I mean, I could see if something like that happened to me because I have that level of importance!
Dina: Such conceit! We’re talking about movies, Paul, not you! I think it sounds interesting, unlike yourself.
Paul: I think that you are psycho just like the main character in this movie if you think that it is going to be worth while!

 Zodiac (R) Mar. 3
(Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr., Anthony Edward)
A relentless serial killer is stalking the streets of the San Francisco Bay Area, leaving citizens locked into a constant state of panic and baffled authorities scrambling for clues. Though the killer sadistically mocks the detectives by leaving a series of perplexing ciphers and menacing letters at the crime scenes, the investigation quickly flat-lines when none of the evidence yields any solid leads.
Paul: I think that this should make for an interesting plot. I think that this movie is going to keep everyone’s eyes glued to the screen
Dina: I’ve heard of the real story, and I think the movie will be much more dramatic and less focused on the killer i.e. BORING
Paul: I think that you should review most true stories, that fact alone makes the movie an instant hit!
Dina: But it isn’t all based on fact...it’s made more dramatic for the audience.
Paul: And I am sure that will make it even better and thrilling than it already seems; this movie defiantly has potential.
Dina: Too bad we all can’t...

Shooter (NA) Mar. 16
(Mark Wahlberg, Michel Pena, Danny Glover, Kate Mara)
A top Army sniper who previously abandoned the military after a routine mission gave way to tragedy is double crossed by the government after reluctantly being pressured back into service in Training Day director Antoine Fuqua’s adaptation of Stephen Hunter’s novel, Point of Impact.
Dina: I’m excited to see this one for one reason—Mark Wahlberg!!
Paul: I think that you should have a better reason to see a movie than to see a man. If that is the only thing that you are looking forward to, you are going to be disappointed because I don’t think the plot sounds good!
Dina: Plot shmot—he’s a brilliant actor and easy on the eyes...
Paul: Okay if you can explain to me how a person gets tricked into being a killer, I think that you could convince me that this is going to be a good movie.
Dina: Why don’t you ask Mr. Wahlberg?!

Nas grew up in the streets of New York hustling to make a living; his name was Nasty Nas. Nas was first heard in a song called “Live at the Barbeque, which was heard all over New York and he was later signed to Columbia Records.

Nas’ new album Hip Hop Is Dead is probably one of the most controversial albums of the twenty-first century. With his number one single “Hip Hop Is Dead he states that real hip-hop is no longer alive.

Not only in that one single on his album Hip Hop Is Dead, but in other songs like Carry On Tradition does he explain how hip-hop died over time and the reasons why it is no longer alive in the music that is made today.

I grew up when hip-hop was really starting to hit, and to me, hip-hop isn’t dead; it has just evolved and isn’t exactly the same as it was when Nas first started.

The songs on Nas’ album are good, but I don’t want to hear someone tell me that hip-hop is dead when that’s mostly what my friends and I love and listen to all the time.

There are not as many rappers rapping about what hip-hop was when it first began, and that is why Nas says what he does about hip-hop being dead.

Nas has made a lot of music with a lot of different people, but on this album he did a song called “Hope featuring Chrisette Michelle. In this song he raps about how hip-hop was when it was alive.

But really to me it sounds like he is rapping about his version of hip-hop.

Honestly I don’t want to hear his opinion on how hip-hop is dead and I don’t want his album because I want something I can move to and agree with. His album isn’t something I can agree with.

Do you want to hear real life situations, real music, and real singing? Then look no further, because the twenty five year old, California, native has returned. She’s back with her sophomore album, scheduled to be released this spring.

You know her from The Way It Is, with songs like “I Should Of Cheated, “Love, and “(I Just Want It) To Be Over.

If you loved her first album (The Way It Is) then prepare to enter a new world with Keyshia. She’s definitely done some growing, but she hasn’t forgot who she is, and where she came from.

Entitled “Tears From A Soldiers Heart, Ms. Cole describes her past life, as well as her present life. She describes how experiences in her life have changed her for the better.

Last summer her first reality series premiered on BET. Each episode invited you into a day in the life of Keyshia Cole. You were introduced to her closest friends, alcoholic sister, and her imprisoned mother, all of which are the epitome of reality.

“I Need A Soldier featuring 50 Cent is scheduled to be the first single. Compared to Destiny Child’s “Soldier, Keyshia talks about a woman who needs a true soldier to love her for who she is. In 50 Cent’s rap he describes how he can take care of her as well as be there for her

People love Keyshia because she’s real, she never tries to sugar coat anything. She brings everything to the table, and lets everyone know how it is. She’s often admired because of her honesty and true compassion for her fans.

Personally, I think that this album is a complete success. She’s definitely on a different style, and she’s experimenting with her craft. Look out for her new album to drop early April, you won’t be disappointed.

The Trends, the fashion, the movies, the music—everything about the era was fun and exciting. Hey, Who doesn’t love the 90s?

From the most fab films to the most hardcore bands, these are the top 5 hotties of the 90s—only the most awesome celebs are worth remembering. Here is some beautiful eye candy for your entertainment. Just like Gobstoppers—the flavor never ends! Enjoy!

1) Heath Ledger
What more needs to be said? He’s Australian, and his accent alone is enough to make the masses of giddy girls go insane! Aside from his gorgeous outer appearance, he’s a talented actor and a dedicated father.

2) Gwen Stefani
She’s a gorgeous rock goddess who demands attention and respect with her in-your-face lyrics and out there style. Everything about her mesmerizes the audience. And it doesn’t hurt that she married a complete hottie, too!
3) Billie Joe Armstrong
He’s the lead singer of one of the greatest influential bands of our time—Green Day. Not to mention he can pull off wearing eyeliner and tight pants; something most guys can’t. He’s short and angry, and that makes him irresistible!

4) Lenny Kravitz
With the dreads and the tattoos and the piercing, it only makes girls swoon more when he gets on stage shirtless and performs. Everything he does oozes sex appeal, from his stirring vocals to what he’s wearing (or isn’t). It’s very hard not to look at him!

5) Cameron Diaz
She’s a blonde bombshell with an illustrious career, and she’s only 34! Although her first big break into acting was a less than spectacular role, it put her out there, and she’s been in the public eye ever since. Aside from her outer appearance, she’s opinionated and strong and what guy doesn’t find that attractive?
