Dina Loves the 90's: Toys

By Dina Rodriguez

The trends, the fashion, the movies, the music- everything about the era was fun and exciting. Hey, who doesn’t love the 90s?

In order…

1) Super Nintendo - This defined our gaming generation. There are many classics like Super Mario Brothers 3 and Donkey Kong. Kids spent more time trying to beat the games than trying to pass basic reading. It was highly addictive!

2) Furby - This was the only toy that could withstand any cruel and unusual punishment you put it though. From your neighbor backing their SUV over it to dropping it in the pool. They could talk too, so that just made it even more fun to torture, as sadistic and maniacal as that sounds. Everyone did it!

3) Pokemon - This was the card game and TV show kids would die for. The show inspired the cards, video games and clothing. As popular as it was, it was often a secret if you liked it; a guilty pleasure, for fear that peers would tease you. Somehow after all these years, these mythical Japanese characters still captivate the elementary school masses.

4) Beanie Babies - They were an obsession for girls and boys a like. An array of different colors and animals, from Tabby cats to Rainbow fish. The bigger the collection, the bigger the fortune, because these things were and still are definitely worth something. Everyone who hasn’t sold them on eBay still has at least one in their closet.

5) Giga Pets - They tested our pet keeping skills and put our siblings and parents on the edge with their constant beeping for attention. Coming in a variety of colors and animals, any child could find one they liked. The kid with the most was usually envied by the rest in the playground, and why not? They were fun to play with!!
