Johnny Depp has become a preeminent actor of this generation of young men and women by starring in such roles as Cry Baby Walker, Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, etc. He is a heartthrob to women all over the world.

“He’s very versatile in his acting and all of his movies are different, and he’s just able to portray anything he wants,� said senior, Hilary Hobbs, “and also he’s very good looking.�

But what makes Johnny Depp such an interesting person? It seems he’s sparked such an interest in many young women that they go about collecting his memorabilia.

“I have about eight movie posters in my room. I have a signed photograph, a calendar; I have two of my closet doors completely covered with pictures taken out of magazines, and I have 32 of his 40 movies,� said Hobbs.

Hobbs is not alone in her obsession. Junior Tamara Gipson claims to have, “20 posters, 25 of his movies, many notebooks, my entire computer and screen covered with him, Johnny Depp action figures, and walls and mirrors coated in his photographs and magazine clippings.�

Although he may be a piece of eye candy to most, many take his views on life and acting abilities and apply them to their own life.

“Watching his work makes me realize that one person can be lots of different things if they just work at it. And he’s very dedicated� said Hobbs.

With such a fascination for an actor of Johnny Depp’s status, you would believe that a romantic relationship could not be maintained. But sophomore Nick Druzbanski, who is Hobbs’ boyfriend, said, “No, I don’t mind that she has the obsession. It’s not affecting me negatively. If I could choose to make it, not as obsessive, I would. She won’t even let me go see the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie with her because that’s how obsessed she is. So if I could tone it down a little bit I would.�

Even if it does bother him a little, Druzbanski said he would never ask his girlfriend to drop her obsession.

“Hilary’s obsession with Johnny Depp makes her interesting, and that’s what I like about her.�

Whether it is his good looks, his views on life, or his marvelous acting skills, Johnny Depp has worked his way into the hearts of many young fans, some deeper than others.
