Trashy students make custodians’ job tougher
By Hayden Carper
As you walk the halls, you see the filth, but wait. Have you ever stopped and thought about how it all gets cleaned from day to day?
Every one does it. You’re walking along and you finish your soda; there’s no trash can around and you don’t want to carry it around with you. What do you do with it; you simply toss it on the ground without thinking twice.
Everyday the halls and lunchrooms are demolished by the student body and the mess is left for the custodians to clean up. Many students and staff agree that the custodial staff has been abused.
“They’re custodians, not slaves, said French teacher Mary Shell.
Without the custodians, this school would be in complete shambles. They are a huge part of the glue that holds this school together. Head Custodian One, Byron Relford has been at Pebblebrook for 11 years, and he said that cleanliness has always been an issue for this school.
“Mrs. Montgomery put new trash cans all over the campus, so there is no excuse why kids can’t just put their trash in a can, said Relford
“It’s a travesty, what bothers me the most is when kids can’t even walk to the trash can and throw away their trash from lunch, said Physics teacher Chuck Ellwood
Relford would like for things to change as far as the cleanliness of Pebblebrook High School, because he thinks that if the school is clean it will improve all aspects.
“If everyone would come together about keeping the school clean then it would be easier and a more productive environment, said Relford.
Relford concluded how it makes him feel to see his hard work ruined by the students in moments with just one word. All he could say was, “Disheartened.
