Living in the 'dirty dirty'...literally

Trash on the Pebblebrook campus is becoming a gruesome epidemic of student’s own doing. The campus seems to be littered from one corner to the next.

The blame for trashing the campus is uncertain, although it is generally clean as the day’s start, by the end of the school day; hallways become covered in Honeybun wrappers and Doritos bags.

“I think it’s our own responsibility to throw away our own trash…you can’t just throw stuff on the ground and expect people to pick it up said senior Allison McLaughlin.

More of a problem than trash in the hallways seems to be the excessive leftovers on lunch tables.

“A-lunch has nice clean tables and if A-lunch doesn’t clean and [same for] B and C-lunch, I’d hate to think what D-lunch is eating on said administrator Samuel Sanford.

Although there are strategically placed trashcans near every door, the incentive to dispose of used trays is lost. What Brook students may need is a stronger sense of responsibility for the cleanliness of their campus.

“Somebody needs to get on [students] stricter, stricter administration, stricter teachers said custodian Stephen Skinner.

Whatever the incentive is for students to clean up after themselves, the janitorial staff still has to clear out the cafeteria between every lunch period, in a swift six seconds. The remaining trash on the booths and tables, after students’ leave, must be cleaned up by about five janitors in the small time period.

“I had to pick up trash but I don’t anymore. I tell people to pick up their trash, I’ve done my part said administrator Ashley Hosey.

So far, the campus seems to be living a double life of cleanliness and defilement, maybe as more students begin to develop a greater sense of responsibility for the aesthetic quality of the Brook campus, there will be a noticeable change in its appearance.

As for now, Pebblebrook continues to be beautiful by day and littered by night and the power to solve that issue is solely in the hands of the majority, Pebblebrook students.

too bad they can't impose a littering fine. that would stop it. these people need to just stop being so lazy and clean up after themselves. it's sad that they leave that stuff everywhere like they have maids to run around after them. RESPONSIBILITY people.
