Ok, so apparently, I'm supposed to be doing an article on substite teachers and I have already asked around and pretty much getting the same response. "They are taken advantage of" is the big one. Not sure who I will ask next, but there is surely someone out there that doesn't treat subs like garbage...
Should the student press have limits?
Now, I’m not going to be a total jerk on this, but I honestly think that there should a be limit for some things that are just obvious like cursing, sexual content, violence, things that are negative to religion and culture, just things like that. There
are some things though, that I think that should not have a limit. Those things are basically how we can’t really say things about the school without being punished, and/or beaten and how we really can’t get records for information we need to know.
Limits though can very from person to person on their values, but I think I might have quite a few people agree with me when I say we should be able to access certain things in this school that they always try to hide, such as the records I mentioned earlier. Writing a story that shows something “negative about the school (such as that article that was written about 2 years ago that ended the paper), certain things about teachers that “Big Brother tries to cover up, and how we really don’t have full rights that most staffs have really needs to be changed. Some of the big limits that need to be set are basically things that people might do in the future, or even now.
I think that we need to limit all inappropriate material, any stories about teachers that are put in a negative way, and mainly common stuff, such as how we are always seem to want to make the administrators and some teachers angry. I’m pretty sure this makes since to most people who are in this class, but it might only vaguely mean something to you. To clarify a bit, our staff shouldn’t write anything I listed here, and we should really should be asking more and more questions about policies so we can’t have a little mess happen again.
I know I seem to be bouncing back and forth on these topics, but I’m trying to get the “best of both worlds in. I think that if you compare and contrast on this issue, it might help you think even more about what can be done. Limits are different to some people as said earlier, and they differ from place to place; for example, Cobb County vs. Dekalb.
But what we need to do is get the perfect hook-ups, so we can find the information we need, without all of these bad things going on. I'm not sure if this would help, but we need to be picking elite members of our staff for this job so we can get the interviews right, without making anyone TOed. That’s what I think anyway. If we could do that, it might help us, but certainly might hurt us as well.
