Romeo and Juliet Blog Journal

Instructions:

As you complete the following blog entries, please name each entry consistently. For example, the blog entry title for Act One's writing assignment would be: Romeo and Juliet, Act One (Diary Entry 1 - Act 1, Scene 5). Do NOT complete the entire assignment in one entry. You should be working on this assignment continually as we read the play.


Writing conventions will be considered when grading this assignment, so proofread and revise. Please be sure to meet the minimum length requirements and cite references to the play with Act/Scene/Line numbers. You may want to compose your entries in a word processor and then paste them on your blog so you will have access to word count and spellcheck.


Act One

1. Start keeping the diary that either Romeo or Juliet might have kept from the time they met (Scene 5). Keep adding entries as the play progresses. When you are finished, you should have at least 6 entries. For each entry you need to note which act and scene to which you are responding. This will be due at the end of the reading of the play (6 entries / 50 words per entry).


Act Two

1. By now you will have begun to develop some strong reactions to the characters you have met in the play. Write responses to two of the following statements (2 responses / 300 words per response):


a. The character I would most like to meet is . . . because

b. What puzzles me most about Romeo and Juliet's love scenes is

c. My initial impression of Friar Laurence is

d. What I enjoyed/disliked about Scene ___ was

e. My impression of . . . has changed the most because of


Act Three


1. Make a list of ALL the hateful names Juliet calls Romeo and explain each.

2. Write a letter to Romeo or Juliet offering your advice on what they should do (100 words).


Act Four

1. Write two responses that complete two of the following statements (2 responses / 400 words):


a. I believe that Juliet has/has not changed significantly since the beginning of the play because...

b. Friar Laurence's plan for Juliet is/is not likely to succeed because...

c. I would/would not consider doing what Juliet decides to do because...

d. When Juliet was discovered "dead," I felt . . . because...

e. What I find most difficult to understand in this act is...

f. What I have discovered so far about Juliet is...


Act Five

Scene 2 Assignments:

1. Write the delayed letter to Romeo from Friar Laurence as Friar Laurence might have written it. Consider the information Friar Laurence would find most important to relay to Romeo (200 words).

2. Make a list of 6 things Romeo will miss after he takes his life and explain why.


Scene 3 Assignment:

1. Who are the people in the play who contributed in some way to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? Make a list of them, and explain how they were involved. Write your opinions of the actions of each person. You should list at least 5 people with explanations.
